The origins of EEM
From market reform experience to a European meeting place.
Professor Władysław Mielczarski is regarded within the EEM community as the father of the conference. He founded the series and chaired its first four editions, from 2004 to 2007.
Drawing on academic and market-implementation work at Curtin University of Technology and Monash University, including contributions to electricity-market reform in Victoria and Australia's National Electricity Market, he brought valuable practical experience to Poland and to EEM's early programme.
The first meeting in Łódź established a specialised forum linking research, market design, regulation and power-system operation. From 2008, the conference developed a truly international character through the organisation of EEM08 in Lisbon by Professor Jorge Sousa. Since then, EEM has been held annually in different European cities, with each edition led by a local Chair recognised as an authority in energy markets.
